Former Newcastle Mayor, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba has officially secured himself a spot within KZN Legislature.

According to ANC Regional Spokesperson for the ANC Mbuso Kubheka Region, Reuben Molelekoa, Dr Mahlaba was taken into KZN Legislature on Wednesday morning, 10 August 2022. “This comes after Dr Mahlaba was voted in as treasurer of the ANC Provincial Executive Committee,” said Cllr Molelekoa.

As the former Newcastle Mayor clinched a provincial seat within South Africa’s government sphere, there are further talks that Dr Mahlaba will be replacing Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu as the KZN MEC of Health in the coming days.

Molelekoa stressed that while it was too soon to discuss the possibility of the former Mayor becoming the MEC of Health, his chances of going higher in the political sphere did look good.

“The newly elected KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, will most likely look at her cabinet and the possible changes she would like to make to it. Also, there are talks among officials that Dr Mahlaba will become an MEC,” said the former Newcastle Deputy Mayor.

Furthermore, Cllr Molelekoa emphasised that Dr Mahlaba has worked exceptionally hard for his new position and potential new promotion.

“Dr Mahlaba was a member of the ANC Youth League, he was a member of local government as a councillor in Newcastle, as well as the Mayor, and it is clear that his leadership skills have secured confidence in him within the provincial government sphere.”

With this in mind, Molelekoa emphasised that the local ANC wished him all the best in his new ventures, adding that they knew he would help in making a positive change in the lives of those in KZN.
