Winter Festival proves to be a resounding success this past weekend

Newcastle Winter Festival 2022

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

After two long years of being cooped up, Newcastillians had the opportunity this past weekend to get out into the sun and enjoy a range of phenomenal foods, stalls, rides and of course live entertainment—at the Build it Winter Festival in Newcastle, KZN.

Igniting the atmosphere and keeping people dancing Karou Charou, Heidi, Bernice West, Blaq Diamond, Biggy, Sunset Sweat Shop, Jan Bloukaas, and Carma kicked up the volume and kept the festival filled with good vibes and dancing feet.

During the day, festival-goers were immersed in the action thanks to the Xtreme Riding Bike Show, the Mortimer Motors 4×4 Obstacle Track, chopper flips, a potjiekos competition, sheep shearing and a demonstration by KZN Private Ambulance, to mention but a few.

After two years of no festival and only having a short time in which to get the historical “Newcastle show” together, Winter Festival Project Leader Armand Botha explained that the three-day event was exceptionally well supported.

While the Winter Festival’s team is still going through the figures of how many people attended, Botha highlighted that over 4600 school children from Newcastle’s rural areas attended.

In addition, he pointed out, “All the stalls did well and were well supported by the community, and the artists pointed out how much they enjoyed being in Newcastle.”

Following the immense support from various local businesses and the community, Botha gave his heartfelt thanks to all who attended and the sponsors with Build-It being the main sponsor.

“Without the Newcastle community and our sponsors, we would not have been able to do it,” Botha enthused.

Furthermore, he said it must be noted that the Winter Festival was planned in two months, as the committee was initially going to postpone it.

“But we (the committee) stuck to our guns as we felt the community and the exhibitors needed it, so we went ahead with the planning. I am extremely proud of my committee for all they did during this time,” stated Botha.

Acknowledging the local businesses who stepped up for the community-orientated annual Winter Festival:
