One dead and second injured, after train and car collide

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

A man was killed and another injured after the car they were travelling in was struck by a train just outside Newcastle, Northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Wednesday afternoon, 7 July 2021.

Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Emergency Medical Services explains, “When paramedics arrived on scene, they found a critically injured man still inside the wreck. He was stabilised on scene and rushed to hospital.”

Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The occupant sustained moderate injuries, and the relevant authorities will investigate the cause of the collision.

Motorists are encouraged to practice caution when attempting to cross railway tracks. Do not stop on the tracks, do not think you can shoot in front of a speeding train. Drive safe and respect the laws of physics.
