Seven people sustained injuries on Saturday night, 24 October 2020, following two motor vehicles colliding on Drakensberg Road in Newcastle KZN.
According to a paramedic on the scene, Jan-Henk van Vuuren of WATCO Emergency Services, one of the people injured is a young boy who sustained severe injuries. However, the other occupants sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The exact cause of the collision is unclear. However, the matter will be investigated by the SAPS. Offering insight, Van Vuuren explains there has recently been a spike in the number of collisions reported in the Amajuba District. Therefore, he warns, “Motorists should take extreme caution when driving.”
As Van Vuuren encourages motorists to practice caution on Newcastle’s roads, his words come following the official launch of October Transport Month earlier this month. This year’s campaign runs under the theme, Together Shaping the Future of Transport, and focuses on the importance of road safety, minimising fatalities on our community’s roads.
