Newcastle Provincial Hospital left with no hot water? Hospital responds

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The Newcastle Provincial Hospital came under scrutiny following allegations made against the running of the hospital and the basic services available to new mothers.

According to a community member, who wishes to remain anonymous, the hospital caters towards mother and child care and cannot accommodate those in their care. She explains, “There is no hot water available at the hospital and mothers who have just given birth are forced to wash themselves and their babies in cold water.”

This, she declares, poses a legitimate threat to the physical welfare of both new mothers who have given birth and their babies. “What if they get sick? The hospital needs to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the issue is addressed?”

However, despite the allegations made, this does not seem to be an issue at the hospital. Investigating the matter, the Newcastillian – Online News approached Sabelo Buthelezi, the PRO of the hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the claims, Buthelezi promptly reverted, explaining; currently, there is no shortage of hot water at the medical facility. In addition, he explains, “When at any time, a certain ward or component does not have cold or hot water, it gets reported to the maintenance department.” Resulting in the matter being addressed timeously.

As for mothers who have delivered, he states that they are usually placed in Ward 4A, and irrespective of the claims, this ward has access to hot water, allowing them the opportunity to bathe themselves and their babies in warm water. Buthelezi concludes, “The posters of the CEO and PRO with their contact details are all over the hospital. Patients can simply call us at any given time to report their dissatisfaction, while they are under the care of the hospital.”

  1. Quite Frankly this isn’t an issue from now.
My daughter is already 11yrs old and 11yrs ago when I delivered her, there was no hot water either.
Prior to me delivering, I was in hospital for 4 days. Not Once was there hot water.

  2. When i had my first child 3 and a half years ago, there was no hot water. Anywhere. When i asked how was i to bath my baby, i was told to wait until i got home which was 3 days after my c-section. And when i had my second child a year ago, i spent 2 weeks there as my baby was in NICU. There was no hot water anywhere in the hospital. That hospital is in an incredibly terrible state!!! With leaking ceilings. Insufficient bedding. Broken toilets. I had even found a worm in my food.
