Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

The intersection at Albert Wessels Drive and the N11, shortly after 9 am this morning, 8 July 2021, was a hive of activity following a multi-vehicle collision.

According to sources on the scene, while the circumstances around the incident are unclear, a truck travelling on the N11 had skipped the red traffic light at the busy intersection. “The matter will first need to be investigated, as it is uncertain at this point if the vehicle’s brakes had failed or not,” stated the source.

However, the truck connected a vehicle driving down Albert Wessels Drive towards Newcastle’s CBD. A passing taxi and a second vehicle were also struck, seeing Emergency Medical Services, traffic officers and police tending to a busy scene. A total of four people were injured and treated before being transported to hospital for further medical care.

Motorists are asked to drive cautiously along the road as emergency personnel are currently clearing the road.
