Collisions over the weekend results in four deaths

Four people have lost their lives during the weekend, with emergency personnel responding to over 10 collisions.

On Friday night, February 28, one person died in a collision involving three motor vehicles on Albert Wessels Drive, near Madadeni.

Jan-Henk van Vuuren of WATCO Emergency Medical Services explains that the incident occurred shortly after 8pm.

“When paramedics arrived on the scene, the man showed no signs of life and was declared deceased.”

In a separate incident on February 28, two people sustained injuries after a minibus and an SUV collided on the Chelmsford Dam Road near the N11. This was followed by a vehicle overturning on the Amajuba Pass, leaving one person injured.

On Saturday, February 29, three people tragically died in a head-on collision on the N11, just outside of Newcastle.

“When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found that all three people showed no signs of life and they were all declared deceased on the scene,” van Vuuren explains.

He adds that two of the occupants of the motor vehicles were entrapped in the wreckages while another person was ejected on impact. There were no survivors in this collision.

The exact cause of the collision is still unclear. Police investigations into the incident continue.

Van Vuuren adds that during the month of February, an estimated 23 people died on the Amajuba District roads.
