1 dead and another seriously injured on Albert Wessels Drive, Newcastle

Asiphephe Road, Accident, Newcastle, Newcastillian

Near Asiphephe Bridge, on Saturday afternoon, 17 October 2020, a vehicular accident occurred on Albert Wessels Drive—resulting in the loss of a life and another being hospitalised.

According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of WATCO Emergency Medical Services—emergency services responded to the accident shortly after the incident was reported. Unfortunately, by the time the paramedic services arrived on the scene, a male occupant inside the vehicle had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on scene, by emergency personnel.

A female occupant sustained critical injuries and such was the damage to the vehicle, the Newcastle Protection Services had to assist other emergency services in extricating her from the vehicle. She was then rushed to a hospital in Newcastle for further care.

The cause of the accident is still unclear and will be investigated by the South African Police Services.
