Three house robbers were arrested after they were spotted travelling towards Greytown in a stolen vehicle.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala explains, the incident unfolded after the three men, armed with a gun and knife, allegedly accosted a Ladysmith man in his home. The police officer explains the three men hit the victim with the butt of the firearm before robbing him of cash and his cellphone before fleeing the scene in the man’s vehicle. She adds, “The neighbouring stations were immediately contacted to be on the lookout. The vehicle was spotted travelling along the R74 towards Greytown.”
The Greytown Task Team was then activated, and a security company joined them from Greytown.
The vehicle was spotted and intercepted, with the three suspects subsequently placed under arrest. Captain Gwala says, “The suspects were found in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as a knife.” The men were charged with house robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon and contravention of the Immigration Act. They appeared before the Ladysmith Magistrates Court on Thursday, 15 April 2021.
