While Newcastillians prepped themselves for a long weekend on Friday, 19 March 2021, the eMadlangeni (Utrecht) Municipality saw development being brought to the forefront.

This follows Amajuba District Municipality’s Speaker, Phumzile Mgcina, hosting a Rural Economic Development Workshop in the eMadlangeni Local Municipality. The workshop forms part of a program that seeks to be the voice of vulnerable members of society, protecting their rights and empowering both the men and women of rural communities.

Through this initiative, the community will be assisted in improving their business management skills while also ensuring the Women in Construction Initiative’s sustainability, which is aimed at uplifting women in rural areas.

Moreover, the program will also create a conducive environment for rural men and women to engage in new business and widen their scope on business approaches and opportunities that already exist while providing them with the knowledge on how to register on CSD (Central Supplier Database). This is to assist young entrepreneurs in registering their companies and NPOs.

Ensuring guests were provided with an extensive overview, the recent workshop was hosted in partnership with various stakeholders, such as the National House Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), Green builders, Department of Human Settlements and ATL.

During the informative event, Mgcina announced 20 people interested in undergoing training in the construction field at Amajuba College would receive an opportunity to enrol for the programme to develop their skills and knowledge.

As the Amajuba District Municipality and the eMadlangeni Municipality look at uplifting rural communities, what are your thoughts?
