Courageously embarking on the life-changing journey of the Mrs South Africa pageant, one Newcastillian says for her, the experience has been an expedition that has transformed her life in numerous ways.

Reflecting on her journey, Newcastle’s Narina Singh says, “I initially played around with the idea of entering for a while, waiting until just before the closing date in February before I entered.”

Her motivation for entering the pageant follows an accident that resulted in her losing the ability to walk and her hands’ proper use. After months of physiotherapy, surgeries, and her family’s loving support, Narina finally started the recovery process. “I have assistive devices to help reduce the pain and assist me to remain mobile during the day. Now, through Mrs South Africa, I want to give disabled people hope, showing them that they can still lead lives filled with dignity.”

Determined to become a voice piece for those with physical challenges, the Mrs South Africa contestant states, “There are big drives in companies to employ disabled people, but the disabled are still being discriminated against.”

Since entering, Narina has proved her worth by securing a spot among the semi-finalists. Looking at this achievement and setting her sights on the future, she explains, “When I first met with the other contestants, I felt inferior, but I have seen and learned, women should not be in competition with each other, but rather we should build each other up.”
According to the semi-finalist, while Mrs South Africa contestants might hail from different towns, be mothers, wives and career women, they all have a common goal of helping others and addressing serious issues within society.

As she finds her feet in the national contest, the Newcastle-based engineer says the most challenging part of the competition for her was putting herself in the limelight. But this is an obstacle she is overcoming, thanks to the loving support of her family, who have stood with her every step of the way.

Media and Creative Director for Mrs South Africa, Lisa Madibe, says if Narina makes it through to the next round in November, she will stand a chance of taking the coveted crown of Mrs South Africa 2022.

With the mother of four driven to make it to the next level of the contest, you can show your support by voting for Newcastle’s very own by SMSing Narina Singh to 35959.
