In authentic Northern KwaZulu-Natal spirit, emergency personnel hailing from Ladysmith, have gone above and “bovine” the call of duty this past weekend. On Saturday, 16 January 2021, a biker was travelling on the R74, between Ladysmith and Escourt. Heading towards Ladysmith, the biker’s journey came to a sudden, grinding halt, when he collided into a cow.
ER24 EMS responded to the incident, treating the man for moderate injuries, including fractured ribs and a dislocated shoulder. After attending to the biker, ER24 EMS transported the patient to the hospital for further medical care.
Giving this story a heartfelt twist, after establishing their patient was fine, ER24 EMS explains, emergency services on the scene went a step further—assessing the cow to determine whether it was fine. Fortunately, the cow escaped serious injury and is on track to a speedy recovery.
Well done to the emergency personnel for going beyond the call of duty.
This incident comes as a reminder to those travelling throughout the area to be cautious of livestock.
