
Local police are continuing with a series of intelligence-drive operations in the area, targeting an array of lawbreakers.
This follows the arrest of 12 suspects during the past weekend. The intelligence-driven operation which began on Friday, July 10, and ended on Saturday, July 11, involved the Osizweni Police and Osizweni Crime Prevention Unit.
On July 10, the team of police officers began their operation at Section F, Osizweni. At a home, the officers confiscated 10 quarts of Black Label and five quarts of Castle Lager. One suspect was arrested for selling the alcohol, which is in contravention of the lockdown regulations.
On the same day, the officers targeted a tavern in Section D, Osizweni. On arrival at the tavern, 12 quarts of Castle Lite were confiscated and one man was taken into custody, for contravening the lockdown regulations
A further eight suspects from another tavern in Section D, Osizweni, are now in police custody.
Police recovered various types of beer at their premises. The suspects are now facing charges for not adhering to the lockdown regulations pertaining to alcohol.
On July 11, the officers began the operation in the Mndozo area, Osizweni. One man was arrested for not adhering to the lockdown regulations, after six quarts of Castle Lager and 12 quarts of Milk Stout were confiscated.
The final arrest took place on the same evening, at a house in Section A, Osizweni. Upon searching a suspect’s house, police recovered 24 full mandrax tablet and 95 small parcels of Woonga. The police also recovered five live rounds of ammunition and a 9mm pistol.
The suspect now faces charges for possession of drugs and for possession of illegal ammunition.
The suspects will now appear in Madadeni Magistrate’s Court, as further investigations continue,
