Walking onto the squash courts, a sense of calm falls over 11-year-old Lethokuhle Mahaye. The time has come to dominate the court, taking on his competitors one match at a time.
From January 25 to January 27, Lethokuhle took part in the KZN Junior Open tournament. The tournament taking place in Durban, Lethokuhle played in three matches, dominating each of his opponents.
Beaming with pride, Lethokuhle says, “Two of the games, I won three-love and the last match, I won two-one.”
Taking the win at the KZN Junior Open tournament, ranking first in his age division, Lethokuhle is now setting his sights on the NJSA Round Robin Tournament. The tournament will be taking place in Pretoria from January 31 to February 2.
“I am excited to be taking part in the tournament, although I do feel about anxious. But, I will go and give my best,” says Lethokuhle.
With a natural ability for squash, which he develops with hours of practice, Lethokuhle’s coach, Faisal Shaik is proud of Lethokuhle’s progress.

“We are extremely proud of all his achievements, especially in the short period of time that he has achieved them. I wish him the best for the upcoming tournament,” Faisal says.
While Letokuhle is dominating tournaments, he does need assistance in the shape of sponsorships. In Bloemfontein, from February 28 until March 1, a national squash tournament will be taking place. With the best of the best from around the country set to compete at the event, Lethokuhle would like to compete and see how he ranks in South Africa.
If anyone can assist with sponsorship, they are encouraged to contact Faisal Shaik on 072 807 0668.
