Local police officers are continuing their war against drugs within the community, following the recent arrest of a drug dealer.
Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube explains that an intelligence-operation was recently held by the Osizweni SAPS and Osizweni Crime Prevention Unit. Following up on information regarding drugs, the officers patrolled the Newcastle/Utrecht Road.
On the road, they arrested a man after he was found with four mandrax tablets. While further investigations are underway, local SAPS are determined to eradicate drugs in Newcastle.
With mandrax proving to be a popular drug, how does one know if a loved one is taking mandrax?
Common signs that an individual is using mandrax includes the following:
- Yellow stained hands
- Bloodshot eyes
- Gaunt appearance
- Rotting teet
- Drowsiness
- Poor sleeping habits
- Loss of appetite
- Increased salvia secretion
- Swollen appetite
While these symptoms paint a bleak picture, there are also the short-term and long-term effects which need to be considered:
The short-time effects include:
- Confusion
- Aggression when the high wears off
- Nausea and vomiting
- Falling over and passing out
Long-term effects include the following:
- A poor immune system
- Convulsions
- Mental and physical deterioration
- Breathing becomes slower, which leads to respiratory failure, comas and death.
