Shortly after 11 am this morning, December 13, emergency services responded to a collision between a car and a truck on the P483. near Keyway Motors.
On arrival officials were met with a horrific scene. The driver of the car was found to be heavily entrapped inside the wreckage and showed no signs of life.
According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren from WATCO Emergency Services, the driver was declared deceased on scene. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was assessed on scene by paramedics.
Shortly after the collision, the local community started looting the truck which was loaded with beer. The police managed to control the crowd and minimize the looting.
The road that links Madadeni and Newcastle remained closed for the time. The cause of the collision is still unclear and will be investigated by the South African Police Services.
