The Natal Fresh Water Angling Association (NFWAA) recently cast off for the first round of the Devland Impuphu Knockout at Sanford all zones.
After some major upset in the first league, many of the top-rated clubs had to regroup and strategise on how they were going to stop the underdogs.
Angling started at 6 am, with the draw of a ball indicating in which zone an angler could make it count for their club.
The clubs contesting the fixture were Itec Freespool, Chelmsford, Endumeni, Riverside and Docrats angling clubs. As usual, the early morning bites were few, as anglers waited patiently for the day to warm up.
As the day progressed, anglers started to land some good catches. Anglers batteries on their cellphones eventually drained due to the constant feedback given to their members on what baits were doing the trick, as well as keeping a watchful eye on their opponents.
At the end of the day, the weighmaster closed the scale and anglers waited to see which four of the five clubs progressed into the next round and which clubs would be going up against each other.
Chelmsford Angling Club claimed victory with 39 points, followed by Itec Freespool with 31 points, Endumeni Angling Club coming in with 21 points, while Riverside finished with 14 points. Unfortunately, Docrats Angling Club will be missing out on a semi-final spot, after finishing with nine points.

Top anglers for the day were Mervyn Budhoo of Itec Freespool, who landed a 3.490 kg carp, and Sanjeev Singh of Chelmsford, who reeled in a 5.020 kg barbel. Both anglers walked away with an R250 voucher and trophy sponsored by Devland Impuphu.

The next fixture is scheduled for October 20, which is the semi-finals and will see the mighty Itec Freespool going up against Endumdeni, while Chelmsford will go up against Riverside.
The NFWAA Pro, Shabir Ismail, extends a heartfelt thanks to the management of Devland Impuphu for their continued support.
Anglers will now take a five-week break, as the NFWAA’s Hindu and Tamil anglers will be observing their religious fast. The association would like to wish them well during this period. Tight lines until then…
