When it comes to pursuing greatness, there is no stopping Ferrum High School from dominating the school sports scene.
During the school holidays, Ferrum High School netball players travelled to Pietermaritzburg to participate in the 2019 Epworth Pre-season Netball Festival.
As one of 11 schools participating in the tournament, the Ferrum High netball girls knew it was pivotal to perform at their full potential, which they did.
Such was their performance, the Ferrum 1st netball team won the entire tournament, with the Ferrum 2nd netball team taking the sixth position.
Dané Potgieter was named the player of the tournament. Furthermore, four of the Ferrum players were chosen as “All-Star Players” and were awarded certificates. These players are: Lucia Mbatha, Dané Potgieter, Dané van der Merwe and Kholeka Nkosi.
The full report and results of the matches played over the three days are as follows:
Friday:
- Ferrum 1st Team beat Voortrekker with a staggering score of 20-3. Ferrum then defeated Thomas More 16-4.
- The Ferrum 2nd Team beat St Johns DSG with a score of 18-17, before defeating Our Lady Fathima 15-6.
Saturday:
Ferrum 1st Team defeated the following schools:
- Epworth 15-14
- Felixton College 22-8
- St. Johns DSG 25-12
- Our Lady Fathima 20-4
- Empangeni 17-9
- Ferrum 2nd Team 16-3
The Ferrum 2nd Team
- Won against Epworth 13-11
- Lost against Empangeni 9-20
- Lost against Ashton College 5-11
- Won against Curro Hillcrest 17-5
- Won against Voortrekker 13-0
- Won against Thomas More 11-1
- Lost against Ferrum 1st Team 3-16
Sunday
Ferrum 1st Team beat Ashton College 16-12, before defeating Curro Hillcrest with a score of 26-6.
Ferrum 2nd Team lost against Felixton College 8-13.
During the playoffs, Ferrum 2nd Team played against Thomas More and won 14-9. Ferrum 2nd Team is placed 6th overall in the tournament.
In the finals, Ferrum 1st Team played against Empangeni and won 18-11, placing first and winning the tournament.
Congratulations to the two Ferrum High School teams for dominating the netball festival.
