St Dominics Newcastle and Ferrum High dominate St Dominics Newcastle Pre-Season Boys Hockey Tournament

A sense excitement surges through the air, as 12 hopeful teams arrive at St Dominics Newcastle to participate in the St Dominics Newcastle Pre-Season Boys Hockey Tournament. Each team setting their sights on the coveted trophy.

Starting on Friday, March 7, the 12 teams were amped to compete on the Alison Marillier Astroturf. With six teams in each division playing round-robin format, every match was like a final, teams putting their best foot forward in an attempt to secure victory for their respective schools.

At the end of the tournament on Saturday, March 8, the St Dominics Newcastle 1st Boys team managed to hold their nerves and were unbeaten throughout the tournament, ending as the A-division Champion.

Ferrum High School 2nd boys team showed great composure in a final that was decided by a penalty shoot-out against the St Dominics Newcastle 2nd team, where Ferrum won 1-0, thereby claiming the cup.

The final ranking in both divisions are as follows:

A Division:

  • St Dominics Newcastle 1st
  • Dundee High School 1st
  • Ferrum High School 1st
  • Sarel Cilliers High School 1st
  • Newcastle High School 1st
  • Vryheid High School 1st

B Division

  • Ferrum High School 2nd
  • St Dominics Newcastle 2nd
  • Sarel Cilliers High School 2nd
  • Dundee High School 2nd
  • Vryheid High School 2nd
  • Newcastle High School 2nd
