A vibrant energy surges through Ferrum High School’s sports grounds. The time has come for 13 schools from around Northern KwaZulu-Natal to compete in the Spur Sports Festival.

The Spur Sports Festival is no ordinary sporting event. With 14 teams participating in the event, the Spur Sports Festival focuses on two aspects.

Raymond van Niekerk, one of the day’s organisers, explains the purpose behind the event is to promote local sports at a school level; while acting as a fundraiser for the NKZN Primary School rugby players, as well as the netball and hockey players from Ferrum High School.

Starting on Friday morning, February 21, and ending on Saturday, February 22, the event was a resounding success. Each of the 14 teams giving it their all in the matches, doing their schools and sports codes proud.

Adding to the day’s festivities, Keegan Daniel, the Former Sharks Super Rugby Player, and Grant Bashford, the former Sharks Assistant Coach, attended the event.

With sports playing a major role in his life, Keegan Daniel says the sports event was the epitome of rugby development.

Through the participants putting on a stellar performance, in a series of hockey, netball and rugby matches, a special thanks goes out to all the schools who participated. A further thanks goes to the supporters and sponsors for making the day an event to remember.
