Phoenix Cricket Club makes it to the night league final

Breaking away from the hustle and bustle of every day life, two men walk onto the cricket pitch.

A jovial atmosphere prevailing, with teammates jokingly teasing each other and their opponents. Despite the relaxed mood, the mission is clear. It is time for a spot competition.

Newcastle Phoenix Club played against Asians Cricket Club at Paradise Sports Grounds on Thursday evening, February 28.

The match formed part of the semi finals for the Night League, where the victor would move onto the finals and possibly win the league.

Phoenix won the toss and elected to field first and bowled Asians out in the 24th over for 127 runs.

Phoenix then took to the pitch to bat. However, due to a power failure after the 14th over, the match was called in favour of Phoenix due to a higher run rate.

Phoenix will now play Paradise Cricket Club in the night league final.

The top bowlers for Phoenix were:

John Clark taking two wickets
Graham Sharp securing three wickets
Jacques Jordaan snatching one wicket
Chris Ewart taking one wicket
Elmar Gouws securing one wicket

The top batsmen for Phoenix were:
Henri Linde made 24 runs, while Graham Sharp took 39 runs.

Newcastle Phoenix Cricket Club continued its winning streak when it took on Warriors Cricket Club on Saturday, March 2, at Newcastle High School’s sports grounds.

The match between the two titans was one of anticipation, a win would see the victor move to the top of the Day League Log.

Winning the toss up, Warriors elected to bat first, managing to score 226 runs for the loss of five wickets.

Taking to the pitch, Henri Linde and John Clark set their sights on the win. The two secured an incredible 152 runs during their opening partnership, before winning the game by seven wickets and with 10 overs to spare.

Thunis Laatz, taking one wicket.

John Clark with one wicket to his name.

Kyle Korb taking one wicket.

Henri Linde clinching one wicket.

Henri Linde 92 off 40 balls

John Clark 56 off 43 balls

Chris Ewart 40 off 18 balls

With this win Phoenix go to the top of the day league. Congratulations to Phoenix for securing the win.
