The festive season is one where people take a step back, re-evaluating what is truly important. It is the season to remember the plight of others, showing compassion and love.
Kheto Ndaba and Nomzano Kubheka are two women who have made it their mission to spread as much love and compassion as possible to the less fortunate.
How do they intend to spread festive joy and extend a helping hand to the less fortunate? Through their Non-Profit Organisation Mngadade. An organisation which accommodates less fortunate children and their parents. Their biggest fund-raiser being Picnic in the Yard.
The Picnic in the Yard initiative began three years ago, the two organisers having absolutely no funds. Relying solely on the generosity of kind-hearted sponsors and digging into their own personal funds.

Now, the event is growing steadily. Kheto and Nomzano pumping the funds raised through the events back into the community.
In January this year, they were able to donate an amazing, 100 pairs of school shoes to children from oSizweni and Madadeni! This year, they are looking at donating stationary and school uniforms to 150 school children.
However, they need the community to rally together and support them to make this dream possible. The community can support Kheto and Nomzano by attending the Picnic in the Yard.
The event will take place on December 23, at Ikhasi Events Hall in Johnstone Farm near oSizweni. It promises to be family orientated and focused on the community. An event which will showcase local entrepreneurs, all the while raising funds for the less fortunate.
The entrance fee is R50 for adults and R30 for children.
“This year will be our third event. We hold it every December 23, because people are usually at home with their families at this time,” says Nomzano.
But, why is supporting the initiative so important?
“Kheto and I both come from middle-class families and we have seen poverty up close. We now want to help people succeed and do better in their lives. Furthermore, when one goes to an event, you normally see people from a certain class. But what about the less fortunate? No one takes the opportunity to interact with those from the townships. Helping them up.”
This is why Nomzano and Kheto feel the function is so important. Through the Picnic in the Yard, residents can interact with those from the township and make a positive impact on their lives.
This wonderful event will start at 8 am with aerobics and a 5km fun walk. This will be followed with the picnic at 11am. Braai facilities will be available at the venue. People are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets.

Be sure to support the love-filled event and make a difference in the life of someone in need.
