Women light their inner fire
Eleanor Roosevelt once said a woman was like tea.
“You can’t tell how strong she is, until you put her into hot water.”
As a Former First Lady of the United States, a politician, diplomat and activist, Roosevelt knew women were anything but the weaker sex, as men sometimes imagined.
To enhance the lives of women, the Fem-On-Fire workshop was held on Friday evening (January 12).
Held at the Total Garage Conference Room in Murchison Street, guests found themselves learning the importance of growing and embracing their lives through Haseena Patel and Donna Davis.
Haseena is a local author, speaker, life coach, as well as the founder and CEO of The Truth Walker’s Journey.
Over the years, she has dedicated a large amount of her time to empowering women and girls’ rights in and around Newcastle.
“The Truth Walker’s Journey began after my sister, Shameema, and I started the Leave No Girl Behind International movement (LNGBI).”
LNGBI is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering teenage girls, ensuring they are not shunned or treated differently from their male counterparts.
“While we focused on empowering girls at LNGBI, we saw that adults also need to be empowered.”
With adults leading their entire lives constrained by other people’s views, Haseena decided to start the Truth Walker’s Journey.
Through her blog, she helps people realise they can focus on themselves as well.”
Donna is from New Jersey in the United States of America. She is also an author, speaker and coach. She is also the founder and CEO of The Menopause Fairy.
“I created The Menopause Fairy just over a year ago to raise awareness and help women with the change.”
The blog sees Donna discussing various issues during the change and how one could use it to their advantage.
“Consider it a reset button and the second half of your life,” said Donna.
During this time, Donna said women could look after others and still do what they felt was right.
Through the combined effort of the two women, guests found themselves submerged in a workshop that allowed them to look within themselves.
“Fem-On-Fire is not just about celebrating women, it is about them using their inner fire,” said Haseena.
As women often put their own needs aside for others, Haseena said it was imperative to prioritize time for themselves.
“Anyone can take five minutes for themselves, but to really savour the time is important,” emphasised Donna.
Haseena and Donna used dance and motivational talks to get their guests geared up for a fiery life, as no woman needs to act as second best.
