This conclusion follows a legal process spanning nearly two years, stemming from the disappearance of R1.2 million from the G4S Ladysmith branch on 19 October 2024.

The investigation originally commenced at the Ladysmith Police Station after the discrepancy was discovered. Initial enquiries by the Ladysmith SAPS Tracing Team quickly identified Mofokeng, who was employed as a cash counting officer at the time, as the primary suspect.

“She voluntarily handed herself over to the Ladysmith detectives in November 2024, and she was then arrested and charged with theft of cash. The matter was then referred to the HAWKS members from Newcastle Serious Organised Crime Investigation, for further exploration,” explained the Provincial police.

During the subsequent Hawks’ investigation, the KZN SAPS confirmed that critical CCTV footage emerged showing Mofokeng removing currency from the counting room and placing it into a bag.

To ensure the evidence was incontrovertible, the Hawks dispatched the footage to the Forensic Science Laboratory, where image enhancement specialists successfully confirmed her identity.

Following this breakthrough, law enforcement added that Mofokeng appeared in court on multiple occasions before eventually pleading guilty on 26 February 2026. Consequently, the matter was postponed for the final sentencing, which was delivered at the close of April 2026.

As Mofokeng now prepares to face the consequences of her actions, the KZN Provincial SAPS further confirmed that she has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
