An incident unfolded at the intersection of Allen Street and Drakensberg Drive in Newcastle, on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, after a collision involving two vehicles and a motorbike left one person seriously injured and traffic at a standstill.
The crash occurred shortly after 10 am, drawing an immediate response from emergency medical personnel, police officers, traffic officials, and tow truck services.
As responders worked to stabilise the scene, curious onlookers gathered nearby, watching as paramedics and law enforcement coordinated efforts amid the wreckage.
Although investigations are still underway, early accounts from witnesses provided insight into what may have transpired. One bystander reported seeing the motorbike pass through the traffic lights before being struck by a Suzuki, which subsequently lost control, hit the embankment near a traffic light, and then collided with a Nissan SUV waiting at the intersection.
An occupant of the Suzuki recounted how the impact unfolded.
“We were driving, when the bike came speeding down from the other side, and we tried to avoid it, but could not,” she said, describing the moment their vehicle hit the motorbike.
The driver of the Nissan SUV, who was stationary at the traffic light explained that he had no time to react as the crash developed in front of him. “I was waiting for the traffic light to change for me to go, when I saw the second vehicle come, and attempt to avoid the biker who came down the road fast, and the driver of the Suziki tried to avoid the bike, but the bike hit his car, and the car then hit mine,” he elaborated.
Paramedics from Magenta Emergency Medical Services provided urgent care to the injured motorcyclist, who sustained severe injuries in the impact, before rushing him to hospital for further treatment. ER24 paramedics examined the elderly driver of the Suzuki to ensure he had not been harmed.
Traffic officers worked to redirect vehicles and control congestion as lanes became blocked and motorists slowed down to view the scene. Despite their efforts, traffic remained heavily backed up in all directions for a significant period.
Furthermore, authorities have since launched a formal investigation into the cause of the crash. Police confirmed that they are gathering witness statements and reviewing evidence to determine the sequence of events.
Motorists have been urged to remain cautious, obey traffic signals, and maintain safe following distances — particularly at busy intersections — to avoid further tragedies.
The collision serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be altered by a moment’s lapse on the road.
