A 32-year-old mother of three has been arrested after allegedly attempting to disembowel her three-year-old daughter on Thursday morning, 11 September 2025, leaving the child in critical condition. She told authorities that “the devil made her do it,” while another one of her children was also injured during the attack, and the youngest escaped unharmed.
The incident occurred in Lennoxton, and Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team explained that he arrived at the scene after being notified by a member of the public. Upon his arrival, he confronted a deeply disturbing scene, where emergency medical personnel were attending to the critically injured toddler, who had suffered severe stab wounds to her abdomen. He said that the situation was shocking and could have been far worse if not for the swift action of a construction worker present at the property that morning.
According to Ghafoor, the worker had seen the victim’s 10-year-old sibling running frantically outside while screams rang out from inside the house.
“The constructions works played a huge role in stopping the woman from carrying out her act, as he ran to the house and tried to get into the home. However, the door was locked and when he looked through the window, he saw the three-year-old girl bleeding on the couch, with severe wounds to her abdomen,” he explained.
Then, without hesitation, the construction worker smashed a window with a hammer after witnessing the mother place the child on the couch and stab her from above. He managed to secure the knife, thereby preventing further harm, until authorities arrived.
The mother was arrested at the scene, and the gravely injured toddler was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, her older sister sustained a minor cut but was also taken to hospital for treatment, whereas the youngest child, aged two, remained unharmed. The attack has left the Lennoxton community deeply unsettled.
While the three-year-old continues to fight for her life, the mother’s chilling claim that “the devil made her do it” has intensified the severity of the incident, leaving those who responded grappling with its shocking nature.
Furthermore, the rapid intervention of the construction worker prevented further tragedy, and authorities are continuing to assess the situation as the mother faces charges of attempted murder.
Ghafoor added that when he questioned the mother, she showed clear signs of mental instability. “When I asked why she did this, she said that it was not her, but the devil that did it. She was very aggressive and showed signs of experiencing a break with reality. But, she was taken into custody by the police and will now be charged with attempted murder,” he said.
Constable Nonjabulo Langa, spokesperson for Amajuba District SAPS, confirmed the incident and stated that while an official statement could not be issued at the time of publication, further details would be released as soon as possible.
With a three-year-old fighting for her life and the mother in custody facing charges of attempted murder, the case stands as a stark reminder of how sudden and severe violence can erupt within a home, leaving lasting consequences for those directly affected.

Take the children away for good from this monster. Children don’t need this in their young lives and certainly not from a mother who should be there to protect her children. I wish the little ones a speedy recovery, my heart goes out to them.
It seems the mother has a severe mental disorder, any mother in their right mind would never harm their child. Perhaps she’s suffering with severe post natal depression? Where is the father of the children?
First of all , no body knows what the next person is going through . Yes we all have our opinions and rage gets the better of us when we see such . She’s a mother of 3 beautiful children , some of us are mothers and some of us are foster moms and some of us are mothers to kids we teach in schools . We all been through postpartum, we overcame that feeling , what about her, from her side ? No mother would hurt her kids if only she wasnt in her right mind. I saw a comment that state where was the fsther or prayers go to the father, things like this happen when MEN do not support thier wives and play the role of the dad in the household .Stop judging and criticizing. Not because the door step is clean on your side that you speak about the next person .
Mind you this can happen to anyone at anytime .

Irrespective of what 1 is going thru or might be going thru, U cannot do this to a Child, leave alone your own kids!!!!There’s no excuse for this Uncivilized Act. What is it that’s so BAD AND intolerable that 1 goes thru, to go as far as DISEMBOWELING (stabbing intestines, stabbing stomach, bladder and all other parts),to your own 3YEAR OLD BABY???? THAT’S JUST PURE EVIL.
Quick to jump and shame the next person , yes it was a wrong act , very painful . Thats why you must always consider putting yourself in ones shoes and see if you’ll make it in a day . Its evil out there and the enemy is out to attack , he goes for the weak ones that carry all their burdens on their own .
