According to the latest report from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), dated 4 August 2025, KwaZulu-Natal’s dams remain in a healthy state.

As parts of the province are currently experiencing adverse weather and rainfall, the DWS report confirms that water reserves continue to exhibit strong levels. Therefore, this offers a timely opportunity to examine the health of KwaZulu-Natal’s dams in detail.

Taking this into consideration, we will now take a closer look at exactly how healthy KwaZulu-Natal’s dams are:

  • Albert Falls Dam is currently at 98.8%, a slight decrease from the previous week’s 99.3%.
  • Bivane Dam’s water levels are currently at 100.6%, a negligible change from last week’s 100.7%
  • Craigie Burn Dam remains unchanged at a robust 100.3%.
  • Driel Barrage Dam’s water levels remain steady and unchanged at 91.8%.
  • Goedertrouw Dam has noted a minor drop, falling from last week’s 98.5% to this week’s 98.1%.
  • Hazelmere Dam stands at 101.7%, a marginal shift from the previous week’s 101.8%.
  • Hluhluwe Dam’s water levels are at a healthy 99.3%, a slight decrease from last week’s 99.4%.
  • Inanda Dam sees its water levels at a strong 101.1%, a minor change from last week’s 101.3%.
  • Klipfontein Dam remains unchanged at a robust 100.2%.
  • Mearns Dam noted an increase in its water levels, rising from last week’s 86.7% to this week’s 90.7%.
  • Midmar Dam remains unchanged at a steady 97.6%.
  • Nagle Dam saw a slight increase in its water levels, rising to 91.3% from last week’s 90.3%.
  • Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam’s water levels noted a minor drop, falling from last week’s 94.1% to this week’s 93.8%.
  • Pongolapoort Dam is at 95.5%, a slight decrease from last week’s 95.7%.
  • Spioenkop Dam noted a slight increase in its water levels, which are currently at 97.8%, a marginal rise from the previous week’s 95.4%.
  • Spring Grove Dam’s water levels are currently at 91.4%, compared to last week’s 93.2%.
  • Wagendrift Dam’s water levels are at a healthy 99.1%, a minor change from the previous week’s 99.3%.
  • Woodstock Dam has seen a slight decline in its water levels, which are currently at 96%, compared to the previous week’s 96.7%.
  • Zaaihoek Dam remains unchanged at 100%.
