A cold front is set to impact South Africa, with KwaZulu-Natal expected to experience rain, colder temperatures, and possible snowfall in higher elevations, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS). While the province currently enjoys clear conditions, residents must prepare for disruptions starting late Thursday night, 3 July 2025, particularly in coastal and mountainous areas.

According to SAWS, a cold front will reach KwaZulu-Natal late on Thursday, bringing notable weather changes through Friday, 4 July 2025.

Durban is expected to see showers, with a 60% chance of rain across the province. Southern areas and higher elevations, such as the Drakensberg mountains, may experience heavier rainfall and possible snowfall, leading to colder temperatures, potentially below the current 6°C lows.

This could impact vulnerable communities and livestock. Furthermore, according to the weather service, localised flooding is a concern in southern KwaZulu-Natal, where rain may affect settlements, low-lying areas, and infrastructure. Strong winds may increase risks for high-sided vehicles and infrastructure.

The cold front will also bring rain to the Free State, Gauteng, and Eastern Cape on Friday, with possible snow in elevated areas.
