Allen Street Accident Sees Eight Injured in Morning Head-On Collision

A collision occurred along Allen Street on Friday morning, 4 April 2025, leaving eight people injured and two in critical condition. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 am, involving a bakkie driving up Allen Street and a taxi travelling in the opposite direction toward the central business district.

The precise cause remains under investigation, but a traffic official at the scene provided insight.

He said, “At the moment, the matter still needs to be investigated, but the taxi driver claimed he had attempted to avoid another vehicle, resulting in him crashing head-on to the bakkie. But this will need to be confirmed.”

Within minutes of the collision, paramedics, traffic officers, police, and breakdown operators arrived at the scene. They worked efficiently to assist the injured, regulate the flow of traffic, remove the damaged vehicles, and clear debris from the roadway, ensuring the area was secured.

Furthermore, two paramedics on-site confirmed that eight individuals sustained injuries, two of them severe. One paramedic noted that among the victims, a patient had reportedly suffered a fractured neck, highlighting the intensity of the crash.

As authorities continue their investigation into the collision, emergency services have issued a formal warning to local motorists, emphasising the need for caution on the roads. This advisory gains urgency with forecasts predicting inclement weather over the weekend, which could lead to slippery and perilous driving conditions.
