On Friday morning, 28 March 2025, the Amajuba District Municipality confirmed that the Amajuba District Disaster Management, Search and Rescue teams had found the teenager.

As reported by Newcastillian News on 26 March 2025, Shaibu was last seen on 25 March 2025, before he slipped on a riverbank in Paradise, Newcastle, just after 4 pm, plunging into the river below. Emergency teams mobilised that night, launching a relentless search for the teen. On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, divers continued their mission, searching the Ncandu River’s rough waters along Finnemore Street, Paradise, driven to find him.

Constable Langa, the Amajuba District SAPS spokesperson, explained that the teenager was found approximately 1.5km away from where he initially fell into the water. “An inquest will now be opened to investigate the matter further,” she noted.

Additionally, as Newcastle is currently experiencing persistent rainfalls, Constable Langa is now appealing to community members to avoid bodies of water.

“As we are experiencing overflowing rivers and dams, we are now appealing to residents to avoid bodies of water such as rivers and dams. This is because while the water surface might seem calm, the under current is strong and we have noted several cases where people drowned in similar incidents. With this in mind, we please call on people to be vigilant and careful around water during this time,” she explained.

As the search for Shaibu Rajab ends with this quiet, piercing loss, Newcastillian News offers its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

  1. Our sincere condolences 🙏 goes out to the family on their tragic lose. We pray that God grant them the strength during this difficult time.

Coming to this article, the news that us reported here is not of utmost truth. Yes the search and rescue teams were there every now and then. There were no SAPS on scene. The Malawian community took it upon themselves to go into these harsh waters to look for this child when they seen nothing was really being done by the search and rescue teams and the divers saying that the water is too high and too rough for them to go in. They instead, were walking along the rivers looking for this child’s body. On Friday, early parts of the morning the body was recovered by his father and other Malawian citizens and thereafter the area was BOMBARDED by SAPS and search and rescue teams. SAPS acted ilas if they were there the entire time.
Our Municipality ans SAPS need to be more proactive in cases like this and try to have our own Resources that we can use.
