According to SAWS, scattered thunderstorms are anticipated across KwaZulu-Natal, with a significant likelihood of severe storms over the western regions.

These storms are expected to bring excessive lightning, damaging winds, hail, and heavy downpours, which may result in localised disruptions.

These impacts include localised damage to infrastructure, residential areas, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock. SAWS has also warned that vulnerable roads may experience localised flooding, while excessive lightning could lead to power surges. Furthermore, the risk of serious injury or fatalities due to lightning strikes remains a concern.

The towns expected to be affected by the inclement weather are as follows:

·         Newcastle

·         Ladysmith

·         Dannhauser

·         Underberg

·         Estcourt

·         Utrecht

·         Dundee

·         Greater Kokstad

·         Impendle

·         Mooi Rover

·         Indaka

·         Bergville

·         uMngeni

·         Umzimkhulu

With severe weather conditions expected to impact multiple areas, SAWS has urged residents to exercise caution.

Travelling over bridges and roads in low-lying areas should be avoided, as these may be prone to flooding and potential sinkholes. Communities are also advised to refrain from outdoor activities, as lightning, hail, and flooding could pose a serious threat to safety.
