Two Ladysmith detectives now find themselves behind bars, amid a corruption investigation that has exposed alleged misconduct within their ranks. The arrests mark a troubling breach of public trust, casting a shadow over the integrity of law enforcement in the region.

According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, Spokesperson for the KZN SAPS, the Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit recently apprehended the two officers.
This was after they allegedly attempted to solicit a bribe from a motorist caught driving under the influence of alcohol along Colonel Gadaffi Street in Steadville, Ladysmith, on 28 February 2025.
Colonel Netshiunda explained that after ensuring the necessary blood tests were conducted, the two female detectives allegedly visited the suspect’s home, informing him that his blood test results indicated he was over the legal alcohol limit. The officers then reportedly told the man that the only way to avoid arrest was to pay them a sum of money.
The motorist managed to report the incident to authorities, prompting the Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit to set up a sting operation, which led to the officers being caught red-handed.
According to Colonel Netshiunda, both officers were subsequently arrested and appeared in court, where they were remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
