SAWS Predicts Further Severe Thunderstorms for KZN

KwaZulu-Natal has faced persistent rainfall for days, with downpours causing widespread disruption across numerous towns and cities in the province.

However, the inclement weather shows no signs of easing, as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) and government authorities warn of further damaging thunderstorms.

SAWS has forecast thunderstorms poised to strike waterlogged towns and cities from late afternoon on Monday, 3 March 2025.

The weather service has cautioned that these storms could lead to significant impacts, including damage to infrastructure, vehicles, settlements, livelihoods, and livestock. Flooding may also engulf vulnerable roads, while lightning poses risks of injury, power surges, and life-threatening incidents.

The towns to be impacted by the weather, as per SAWS, are as follows:

  • Newcastle
  • Ladysmith
  • Mooi River
  • Giants Castle
  • Kokstad
  • Dundee
  • Dannhauser
  • Underberg
  • Estcourt
  • Impendle
  • Harding
  • Howick
  • Umzimkhulu
