ER24 continues to personify its motto, “Real Help, Real Fast,” with the acquisition of two state-of-the-art ambulances, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to saving lives. These cutting-edge vehicles will be deployed to their Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics in Newcastle and Ladysmith, further enhancing emergency medical services in both communities.

Ziyaad Warasally, Area Manager for ER24, underscored the numerous benefits of the new ambulances.

Designed with precision and innovation, the vehicles prioritise patient and crew safety while offering a significantly more spacious rear workspace compared to previous models.

“The new ambulances’ interior is configured with safety and comfort for both personnel and patients,” Warasally explained. “There are no sharp edges in the rear compartment that could pose a risk of injury, and the lighting has been vastly improved. Additionally, the rear branding features a large chevron for enhanced visibility at emergency scenes.”

Furthermore, one of the standout elements of these new ambulances is their bulbar capability, a critical feature enabling them to navigate unforeseen obstacles such as animals crossing the road at night.

Mechanically, the upgrades are substantial. The new ambulances are equipped with advanced engines, transmissions, and suspension systems, resulting in a safer, smoother ride for patients.

Warasally elaborated, “The vehicles are far more powerful than the older models, which had a 2.4 diesel engine. The new ambulances are powered by the modern 2.8GD-6 engine, offering improved reliability and performance.”

Another essential enhancement is the strategic placement of emergency lights to maximise visibility.

These lights ensure paramedics remain clearly visible to motorists, even when navigating high-speed intersections during critical response scenarios. This upgrade significantly reduces the risk of road incidents, particularly during emergencies. Additional innovations include a dedicated biohazard waste storage area, ensuring the secure disposal of hazardous materials, and upgraded GPS navigation systems. These advanced tools allow ER24 crews to locate patients and emergency scenes more efficiently, mitigating delays caused by inaccurate routes or traffic.

“The new ambulances even feature additional emergency lighting to improve visibility both on-scene and while en route to emergencies,” added Warasally. “These upgrades collectively allow us to deliver a more reliable and efficient service, ultimately improving patient outcomes.”

In conjunction with the acquisition of the new ambulances, ER24 has also relocated its Newcastle base to a contemporary office space at 4 Greaves Street.

“While the difference between the two bases isn’t substantial, the new premises offer a more modern design and layout, providing an enhanced working environment for our team,” said Warasally.

Moreover, ER24’s ongoing investment in modernising its fleet and operations reinforces its commitment to providing unparalleled emergency care to Newcastle and Ladysmith residents.

With these advancements, communities can take comfort in knowing that help will arrive swiftly and efficiently when needed most.
