Three injured following collision at Victoria and Allen Street intersection

A collision involving a Hyundai Getz and a bakkie at the Victoria Road and Allen Street intersection on Tuesday afternoon, 10 December 2024, left three people injured.

The crash occurred at approximately 2 pm when the two vehicles, each driving in opposite directions collided.

A third vehicle was just centimetres away from being involved in the wreck, narrowly escaping disaster. While the exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, one motorist, who was in the third vehicle, shared his experience.

“We were driving down Victoria Road and the traffic light was green when the driver came from the direction of Hardwick Street and tried to turn into Allen Street. I slammed on the brakes, and luckily, my vehicle’s brakes are sharp. I literally just missed the collision. But unfortunately, the driver of the Getz wasn’t as fortunate and couldn’t avoid the bakkie.”

Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, with paramedics noting that three people were reported injured. The full extent of their injuries is still unknown, and further investigations into the incident will continue.

As the scene was cleared and emergency personnel assisted the injured, motorists are urged to be extremely cautious when driving in the area. Adhering to traffic regulations and being vigilant behind the wheel could help prevent future accidents.
