The accident happened near Ingogo, along the route to Newcastle. According to reports, a light motor vehicle and a truck collided head-on, severely damaging the car.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to assist the occupants—a woman and her young child. Charles Steyn from Magenta Emergency Medical Services reported that, despite the severity of the crash, both sustained only minor injuries, including cuts and lacerations and were treated at the scene.

Furthermore, with the weekend drawing near, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an urgent heatwave warning for towns such as Newcastle and Ladysmith. With this in mind, Road Angels South Africa has called on drivers to exercise extreme caution. “Be sure to carry water with you, in case you find yourself stranded and at risk of dehydration. The heat can be draining, so it’s crucial to stay hydrated and drive with care.”

The organisation also cautioned that the intense heat could increase the risk of fires, potentially reducing road visibility. Motorists are urged to remain patient and vigilant while driving throughout the weekend.
