Reflecting on the monumental R160 Million project, which commenced in November 2022 with Phase 1A, the Newcastle Municipality’s Communication Unit expressed confidence in the progress made so far.

“The progress of the two phases of the project is very satisfactory, and we are positive that the entire project with all phases will be completed on time.”

Invited to take a walk through the facility, Newcastillian News captured a few images for residents to gain insight into some of the progress thus far:

Looking to the future, the Newcastle Municipality’s Communications Unit underscored the project’s extensive timeline, spanning five years with a targeted completion date of 2027. “The successful realisation of this timeline is contingent upon the consistent availability of financial resources from the project’s sponsors to support the implementation of Phases 2 through 5,” noted the Communications Unit.

While the project’s ultimate completion is earmarked for 2027, Phase 1 aims to wrap up by December 2024.

Looking at Phase 1, the Communications Unit outlined the remaining tasks:

  • Parking rehabilitation
  • Ruby field
  • Completion of the cricket field
  • Completion of hockey court
  • Guard houses
  • Construction of change rooms
  • Tennis court
  • BMX track area
  • Outdoor Indigenous games
  • Vending stalls
  • Completion of 2 x Combo courts, as well as the completion of the 7-a-side court
  • Completion of Change room (Electrical works, plumbing and doors)
  • Completion of Platforms, and Construction of walkways
