The heart-stopping incident unfolded at around 3 pm, approximately 1.6km from the junction to the R68, linking Dundee and Melmoth, in the direction of Newcastle.

Charles Steyn from Magenta Emergency Medical Services recounted the event, stating that he and his team were in the midst of transferring a patient to a hospital outside of Newcastle when they witnessed the driver suddenly losing control of their vehicle.

According to Steyn, the bakkie flipped before coming to a rest on a nearby vacant piece of land.

Despite already attending to a patient, the Magenta team assessed the motorist’s condition and immediately alerted ER24 Emergency Medical Services to the scene for assistance. Upon their arrival, ER24 responders determined that the driver had sustained moderate injuries to their arm and shoulder.

While the driver’s survival is nothing short of miraculous, investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of the vehicle’s loss of control.

In the interim, emergency personnel are urging all motorists to exercise extreme caution while on the road, emphasising the importance of adhering to speed limits and ensuring vehicles are compliant with safety regulations.
