The Miss Grand South Africa pageant, an esteemed annual event on the country’s beauty calendar, was established in 2015 under the auspices of Commonwealth Pageant South Africa, spearheaded by Anel de Swardt.

Its primary objective is to crown the nation’s representative for the globally renowned Miss Grand International competition.

Following a series of transitions, the pageant license found its current home at Maggy-Dee Productions, helmed by Miss Grand South Africa 2015, Lenie Pieterse, who has overseen the contest since 2017.

South Africa has notably made its mark at Miss Grand International, securing placements twice, including top 20 finishes by Belinde Schreuder in 2019 and the fourth runner-up position by Jeanè Van Dam in 2021.

Reflecting on her selection for the prestigious pageant, Sharnè expressed her elation, stating, “I received the news of my selection on 15 January 2024. While I was confident in my candidacy, the excitement of being chosen was truly overwhelming.”

With the pageant’s mission to empower women to effect positive change in communities through charity and cultural advocacy within South Africa, Sharnè conveyed her eagerness to participate in the event, determined to make her mark in the beauty pageant.

However, this isn’t Sharnè’s maiden voyage into the pageant realm. She previously competed in 2021, securing a commendable fourth position. Drawing from her experience, she remarked, “It has been a transformative journey, shaping me as an individual and empowering me to channel my purpose into action.”

As the inaugural workshop of the pageant looms on 16 March 2024 in Centurion, Sharnè sets her sights on the Miss Grand International 2024, slated for 25 October 2024 in Yangon, Myanmar.

“I hope to do what has not been done before, and bring the victory home for both Newcastle and South Africa,” she declared.

As Sharnè embarks on her quest for international acclaim, we invite you to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
