As Northern KwaZulu-Natal residents endure scorching temperatures on Monday, 20 November 2023, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) is sounding the alarm, urging caution in the face of a heatwave that has set in and is expected to persist until Thursday, 23 November 2023.
According to SAWS, the interior and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) could experience soaring temperatures. The areas that have been earmarked as most susceptible to the intense heat include:
- Newcastle
- Ladysmith
- Dannhauser
- Utrecht
- Underberg
- Vryheid
- Mooi River
Furthermore, SAWS has issued a stern warning, highlighting the potential risks during this extreme heat period. Residents are at increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as hyperthermia and heatstroke. Dehydration and feelings of low energy are also cited as possible effects.
Please be conscious of pets being left outside without proper hydration and shelter, during such heat, as it will harm them.
