According to the information received, the accident took place at a traffic light on the busy road, where the victims had an unexpected encounter with the vehicle.

Chantelle Botha from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services provided insights into the distressing event. She explained that the emergency medical services received calls regarding a collision on Albert Wessels Drive. However, upon arriving at the scene, paramedics found that a taxi had struck two pedestrians.

Sifiso Zwane, also from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services, elaborated further on the incident, stating, “The pedestrians were crossing at the traffic light on Albert Wessels when the taxi driver began waving them down.”

It seems that the pedestrians, eager to catch a ride, responded by running towards the taxi. Tragically, as they got closer to the vehicle, the driver accidentally knocked them down.

As a result, the consequences were severe, as Zwane reported that both pedestrians suffered serious injuries, including fractures.

Furthermore, Botha added, “The patients received immediate onsite medical attention before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.”

In the wake of this incident, a plea is being made to pedestrians to exercise caution when crossing roads and approaching vehicles. Safety should remain a top priority, particularly in areas with heavy traffic flow.
