A significant housing initiative is set to hit Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal and will benefit approximately 2000 people.
On Saturday, 4 February 2023, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, and KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube made their way to the Section 7, Madadeni, sports grounds to unveil the initiative.
“The project aims to formalise the dense Soul City to fit a yield of approximately 2000 units to be delivered once construction commences,” said Khumalo.
While the exact date of commencement of construction is to be confirmed, the Department ensured that the previous MEC approved the necessary funds for the land acquisition of the privately owned land back in 2020, with the purpose of enabling development.
“The Premier and I jointly officiated at the announcement of the purchasing of 80 hectares of privately owned patches of land for purposes of housing development. The said land has been bought at a cost of R2,7 million and the anticipated total yield of housing opportunities is 2 000 beneficiaries,” stated Dr Mahlaba.
