The Amajuba District Municipality announced that the municipal entity had elected Cllr Ndabuko Zulu as its new mayor, taking the Mayoral title on Thursday, 8 December 2022.

Cllr Zulu was officially appointed as the District Mayor during a Special Council Meeting, where he was elected unopposed by the councillors in attendance.

The election of the Mayor was officiated by Gugu Nkosi, the Acting Senior Magistrate from Madadeni Court.

Mayor Zulu replaces the former Mayor, Cllr Vuselwa Bam who recently tendered her resignation, as the District Mayor, at the end of November 2022.

It is worth remembering that the newly appointed mayor recently survived a failed assassination attempt.

On 16 November 2022, Cllr Zulu was speaking with the Dannhauser Municipality Mayor Sibusisio Kunene outside a business premise in Osizweni.

During this time, a car with seven men pulled up and some of the vehicle’s occupants jumped out and fired shots at him and the Dannhauser Mayor. Two of the suspects also robbed two Ethiopian shopkeepers of their vehicle.

The District Mayor and the Dannhauser Mayor chased the suspects down while calling the police for backup.
