The process of selecting the new Amajuba District Municipality mayor is underway, according to the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).

With members from within the political party claiming that she had been recalled and resigned from the IFP, Prince Zulu said that Cllr Bam had rather made the decision herself to resign for personal reasons and that she had not left the IFP. “Cllr Bam remains a loyal member of the party,” assured Prince Zulu.
He went on to say that “Cllr Bam will be redeployed to another position, maybe even to Parliament. However, this decision will be made at a national level.”
Now, with regards to who will be leading the Amajuba District Municipality which oversees the Newcastle, eMadlangeni (Utrecht) and Dannhauser municipalities, Prince Zulu confirmed that the IFP had not yet selected an individual to replace Cllr Bam.
“However, as we cannot allow service delivery to come to a standstill, the National Deployment Committee will be conducting interviews to establish who will be competent enough for the position,” he said, highlighting this process could take up to two weeks.
In the interim, Prince Zulu stressed that residents living in Newcastle, Utrecht and Dannhauser had nothing to fret about. “The municipality will ensure service delivery continues and the IFP will ensure it selects the best person for the position,” he affirmed.
