This Festive Season, the Newcastle Municipality and Amajuba District Municipality put on their Santa boots and assisted the less fortunate.
Newcastle Mayor Xolani Dube, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Musa Thwala, Municipal Speaker Cllr Thengi Zulu, and Chief Whip Faizel Cassim, delivered food parcels to needy Osizweni and Siyahlahla families.
The four municipal officials also spent Christmas morning at the Newcastle Provincial Hospital, giving gifts to mothers and babies born on Christmas Day.
In addition, Cllr Vuselwa Bam, Mayor of the Amajuba District Municipality, led a delegation of Amajuba District leadership to Mediclinic Newcastle and Newcastle Provincial Hospital.
The goal of this visit was to greet the babies born on Christmas Day.
The Amajuba Mayor was accompanied by the Speaker of the Amajuba District Municipality, Cllr Reginald Ndima, Deputy Mayor Cllr S. Sizani, and the Mayor of Dannhauser Local Municipality, Cllr Sibusiso Kunene.
As a result, the newborn babies were given toiletries, diapers, clothing, and other items to assist the parents of these little angels.
These gifts were supplied by the municipalities of Amajuba District and Dannhauser Local.
Cllr Bam took advantage of the occasion to express her gratitude to the healthcare workers who have ensured that people receive the best possible care while the world deals with the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We felt it would be necessary and justifiable that we stand in front of you and say thank you. You have done wonders during these difficult times. You have saved many lives and continue to do so even on a day when many are enjoying their time with their families. Thank you for all your efforts”.

The delegation then travelled to Niemeyer Hospital in Utrecht, a facility for Covid-19 patients, where they showed their support and appreciation for the medical staff.
