2022 SPAR Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge

Stepping into some good old school sports—KwaZulu-Natal schools are preparing to be enthralled by fast-paced hockey action. This follows the dates and host schools for the ten regionals around the province for the 2022 SPAR Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge being announced.

Kicking the tournament off, the first regional will be held at Ferrum High School in Newcastle on Saturday, 26 February 2022. Ferrum’s Astro will host athletes from Vryheid, Newcastle, Pongola, and surrounding areas.

Four regionals will be held in March and for the first time in the tournament’s history, the two Pietermaritzburg regionals will be played separately.

St Anne’s College will host the PMB Northern Regional on Saturday, 5 March 2022, while St John’s DSG will host the PMB Central Regional on Sunday, 6 March 2022.

Additionally, Danville Park Girls’ High School will host the Durban North Regional on Saturday, 12 March 2022. Later in March, the Highway Regional, the fourth tournament, takes place on Sunday, 13 March 2022, at Westville Girls’ High School.

In April, Kingsway High School invites schools to participate in the Durban South Regional on Sunday, 10 April 2022, at the Three Schools Trust Astro.

Later in the month, Matatiele’s King Edward High School will host the Southern KZN Regional, which will bring together schools from Port Shepstone, Kokstad, and iXopo on Saturday, 23 April 2022.

The final three regional tournaments will take place in May, beginning with the uMvoti, uThukela, and uMzinyathi Regionals on Saturday, 7 May 2022, at Deutsche Schule Hermannsburg

Once the above is completed, the penultimate regional will be held on Sunday, 15 May 2022, at Durban Girls’ College.

Lastly, the Northern KZN Coastal Regional, which concludes the regionals, will be hosted by Grantleigh College in Richards Bay on Saturday, 21 May 2022.

The annual challenge ends with the much-anticipated Grand Finals held at St Mary’s DSG on the weekend of 23 and 24 July 2022

The 2022 SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge winner will be determined after two gruelling days, where various regional winners compete for the title.
