There appears to be a spike in farm-related attacks in KwaZulu-Natal, with yet another new case coming in today.

Police in Vryheid are investigating a business robbery after four criminals targeted a prominent game lodge in the Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal area.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a police spokesperson, states the culprits hit the lodge just after midnight on Monday, 29 November 2021. According to sources, the men allegedly cut the permitter fence to gain access to the premises.

Once inside, the men exhibited little mercy, holding their victim at gunpoint, demanding money. Unfortunately, during the incident, the group shot a woman in her left arm.

After collecting various items, the thieves fled the scene with cash, three cellphones, a laptop, and a television. However, “The matter is still under investigation,” Colonel Mbele points out.

As authorities investigate the case, it is worth noting that this is the fifth farm-related attack in a month.

Five armed men attacked John, Malcolm, and Doreen Moor on their farm, Moor Park, located outside of Estcourt, on 8 November 2021

Additionally, on 9 November 2021, an older woman was robbed and assaulted with a panga on her Middlerus farm, located between Greytown and Mooi River.

Then, on 10 November 2021, a Newcastle family was attacked on their farm along the D96. And on 17 November 2021, a 63-year-old farmer was stabbed during a farm attack on his property in Boston, KZN Midlands.
