Shamefully, two Escourt men ruined the lives of multiple people, all for their selfish gain. Colonel Thembeka Mbele, police spokesperson, tells us about the events leading up to their arrest.

At 1.30 am, a 40-year-old woman was awoken in her bed in Mabhalonini, Estcourt, on 2 February 2020. Unbeknown to the unsuspecting victim, an unknown armed man had snuck in through the window.

“Traumatised and fearing for her life, the victim attempted to fight the man, but he overpowered her, pressed her down and threatened to kill her if she makes any noise. The man raped the victim several times before instructing her to fetch him juice.”

Now the victim of a multiple raping, she made her way out of the room, turned on the light, and realised who the man was.

The pathetic human had approached and proposed his love to her earlier that day, but she declined.

Nevertheless, “She got the opportunity to escape while the man was relaxed and drinking the juice. She went to a nearby house where she screamed for her neighbour.” Furthermore, Colonel Mbele says that the victim could provide a description of the man, and the community identified the suspect as MuziwenkosI Mzunkunzi Nkala.

“The investigation revealed that Nkala might also be linked to another rape case where a 58-year-old woman was allegedly raped at her home in Bhalonini area on April 2020.”

The accused appeared in court several times before being convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Estcourt Regional Court on November 11, 2021.

Colonel Mbele explains that in the case of the four children, the Estcourt FCS Unit obtained an 80-year prison sentence for an 18-year-old man who raped his three nephews and niece during the month of October. The children ranged in age from seven to nine years old.

The revolting boy was sentenced to 20 years in prison for each count by the Estcourt Regional Court, and the sentences will run concurrently.

“It is alleged that the accused would call the victims to his room one by one and rape them. The mother of one of the victims overheard her son narrating his ordeal to his older brother and intervened.” According to Colonel Mbele, the victims were questioned, and all admitted to being raped by their uncle.

Four counts of rape were opened for investigation, and the excuse for an uncle was arrested. He was remanded in custody until sentencing. “The Estcourt FCS Unit detectives did an exceptional job and treated every little piece of evidence with caution which led to the successful conviction and sentencing of the accused,” Colonel Mbele concludes.
