Newcastle farm attack: Three suspects arrested

Farm attack

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

On Wednesday afternoon, 10 November 2021, a Newcastle family along the D96 (past Vulintaba Country Estate) were the victims of a farm attack.

Mornè Potgieter, Ithemba Security’s Operational Director, explains that the family were together in their home—when six men stormed in and overpowered them. “They were armed with pistols and knives, demanding cash and firearms,” Potgieter says.

During the robbery, the perpetrators also stole a vehicle. Thereafter, the men fled the scene, stealing cash and firearms from the property. Their escape, however, was not going to be an easy one.

Potgieter points out, “Intelligence was gathered immediately, and all the local farmers were called in to assist. The necessary roads were blocked off.”

Moreover, he explains that three suspects were arrested after a short chase between the criminals and security officials, farmers, and law enforcement.

Law enforcement recovered a television, a few watches, and an undisclosed sum of money, along with two firearms and a knife.

However, three suspects are still on the loose, and law enforcement is looking for them.

Potgieter explains that no family member was hurt during the incident.
