The South African Police Service confirms that the four Moti brothers, Zidan, Zayyad, Alaan, and Zia Moti, were found and safely reunited with their families last night.
The brothers were on their way to school in Polokwane around 7 am on Wednesday, 20 October 2021, when they were kidnapped at gunpoint.
A group of men armed with rifles and handguns surrounded their vehicle and forcibly removed them before fleeing the scene.
After three weeks, it comes with a sense of relief that all four brothers have been safely reunited with their family.
Last night, 10 November 2021, police in Vuwani received a call from a local resident who explained that the children had arrived at their house after being dropped off on a nearby road.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo explains, “Police arranged a doctor, who confirmed that the children are in good health, before they were handed over to their parents. The children also appeared to be in high spirits during the reunion with their parents.”
The children were not interviewed after being recovered, but Brigadier Naidoo says investigators will arrange for SAPS psychologists to assist with that today, 11 November 2021.
The investigation into the kidnapping case is still ongoing, according to Brigadier Naidoo. The SAPS is now urging anyone with information that can help bring the kidnappers to justice to contact the police.
Information can be shared by calling the SAPS Crime Stop line at 086 00 10111 or using the MySAPSApp.
All information will be kept strictly confidential, and callers can remain anonymous.
